ABOUT | Artistic Vision

Sally's recent artistic work and style is informed by her last 18 months of living and artistically working in Java, Indonesia and integrates her eclectic background and training in physical theatre, playwriting, butoh, Skinner Releasing dance technique, and Amerta movement (from Javanese performance artist Suprapto Suryodarmo).

Sally's current artistic aesthetic delves into the immediate intimacy of sites; finding freedom within extremely limited, contained and small spaces while accessing the subtle power of minimal movement. She starts with the ordinary as a path to the extraordinary, often creates surreal and absurd worlds, as well as plays with the juxtaposition of private versus public, beauty versus grotesque, and the animate versus inanimate. She currently is experimenting with performance/audience relationship as a “gallery type” dialogue- inviting audience to choose their own time and spatial relationships to the performance work itself.
