improvisation

Starting from somatic based principles, improvisation is approached as a playful duet between inner and outer awareness. Ways of integrating sound, touch, visualized imagery and movement are explored as well as encounters with objects, costumes and site. This class draws on Sally’s movement research in Indonesia to introduce new awareness of ones culturally determined movement habits, expanding ones potential vocabulary.

Sally’s Improvisation Classes are inspired by her background in Amerta Movement (from Javanese performer Suprapto Suryodarmo), Skinner Releasing Technique™, Butoh and body-based Theatre. Sally teaches Improvisation regularly as part of Independent Dance’s Monday Night Improvisation programme at Siobhan Davies Studios in South London.
